Department of Music

The most flexible contribution you can make is to the Department of Music general fund. Gifts to this designation go to fund a wide variety of initiatives that receive no direct support from State of University funds. These include core student-centered programs such as the UNC Concerto Competition, UNC Opera premieres, other ensembles, symposiums, guest artist residencies, and many more. Donations to the fund may be mailed to Department of Music; Hill Hall, CB# 3320; Chapel Hill, NC 27599-3320, or made online by following the instructions below:

James and Lilian Pruett Graduate Research Fellowship

This fund honors distinguished alumni James W. Pruett (1932–2014) and Lilian P. Pruett. After 25 years on the UNC music faculty and ten as Department Chair (1976–1986), James Pruett served as Chief of the Music Division at the Library of Congress from 1987–1995. The Pruett Fund extends that legacy by supporting the Pruett Fellowships, which fund a summer of archival work at the LOC’s Music Division for three UNC musicology graduate students each year. Donations to the fund may be mailed to James and Lilian Pruett Graduate Research Fellowship; Department of Music; Hill Hall, CB# 3320; Chapel Hill, NC 27599-3320, or made online by following the instructions below:

Music Awards and Honors Fund

The Music Awards and Honors Fund is one fund to support a variety of initiatives in the departments such as the Nelson Delgado Jazz Award and other awards. The one exception that has a separate fund is the Professor Richard E. Luby Memorial Fund, which was established in 2013 to honor the extraordinary contributions of Richard Luby, professor of violin and chamber music, who taught in the Department from 1979 until his death in January 2013. Gifts can be made by writing a check to the Music Awards and Honors Fund (specific funds can be listed in the memo line) or Professor Richard E. Luby Memorial Fund and mailing it to The Department of Music, Hill Hall, CB# 3320, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-3320. To make an online donation to the fund:

1. Click the blue “Make a Gift Now” link above.
2. Select “Music Awards and Honors Fund” (104452) from the “Select a Fund” drop-down box. Note: If you wish to give to the Professor Richard E. Luby Memorial Fund (100343), click on “Search Funds” and search for “Luby.”
3. Enter an amount, click the green “Add this Gift” button, and select “Next” at the bottom right to proceed with a secure online giving process.
4. To give to specific awards like the Delgado Award, scroll down to “Gift Options” and click on “I would like to share a story about why I made this gift.” Type in which award you would like your gift to go toward.
