Interested in auditing a class in the Music Department? Please carefully follow the instructions below that apply to you! All students auditing classes in the music department must register via the instructions below.

Non-UNC Students Auditing Classes

Please find a course you are interested in, and contact the instructor to get permission. Once you have been granted permission, you will need to fill out two forms. Non-UNC students can request to audit a course after the last day to drop/add classes (after the first 10 days of classes fall and spring semesters). Forms for auditing include a Drop/Add form and a Registrar Biographic/Demographic form.

To request to audit a class:

  • Complete the Drop/Add form.
    • Please pay close attention to the directions and the examples at the top of the form on how to fill the form out correctly.
    • Obtain the instructor’s initials under the department approval form (to the right after the time and room information of the class).
  • Complete the Registrar Biographic/Demographic form.
  • The student or the instructor will send the forms to the music registrar who will get the department Chair’s signature.
  • The music registrar will send the forms to registrar@unc.edu (the University Registrar Office) to be processed.
  • Students that are enrolled should then receive a bill to pay the auditing fee.
    • If you are over 65, there may not be an audit fee – please check with the University Cashier for confirmation about this.
