The Department of Music presents the annual concert featuring the department’s 1843 Pleyel piano.
Donated to the Department by Tom Kenan, the restored Pleyel was purchased directly from the Pleyel piano manufacturing company in Paris. Pleyel’s instruments were favorites of Frédéric Chopin and many of his nineteenth-century contemporaries, and reflect a touch and sound quite different from the modern grand piano.
Curated by students in Professor Solomon’s MUSC 286 Traveling Through the Ivories class, the concert will feature students and faculty in performances of works contemporary to the Pleyel piano’s creation in 1843.
