Jason Richmond is a producer, engineer and mixer who has worked with such artists as The Avett Brothers, Joe Henry, Branford Marsalis, The Steep Canyon Rangers, The Bad Plus, and Shirley Caesar.

Although accustomed to working with a wide range of artists, Jason is particularly versed at working with the sounds of Jazz, Americana, and World Music. The last few years have seen him engineer several albums for Grammy-nominated Jazz vocalist Kate McGarry, as well as co-produce and engineer a solo album with Dom Flemons (founding member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops), Prospect Hill. Shortly after this release he was approached by Grammy-winning Malian Kora master Mamadou Diabate to engineer and produce Griot Classique, an exquisite collection of solo Kora compositions.

Jason is known for his versatility in making great records happen in whatever space he is provided, and has been called on to work in everything from world-class studios to remote locations. Recently he co-produced, engineered, and mixed the new record from Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba, which was partly recorded in North Carolina as well as in a make-shift studio in a hotel in Senegal. He is also currently working with Scott Avett (The Avett Brothers)
on an album by singer-songwriter Eef Barzelay (Clem Snide) utilizing an old house converted into a studio on Scott Avett’s farm in rural North Carolina.

In the past year Jason has been fortunate to work on two records with Grammy-winning producer and songwriter Joe Henry—the Steep Canyon Rangers’ 2018 release, Out in the Open, and a forthcoming record from Rising Appalachia, recorded at the Panoramic House in Stinson Beach, CA.

Jason finds himself grateful each day to work with talented musicians in beautiful spaces and be a part of the creative alchemy that brings forth a record.
