MUSC 211.009: Piano Ensemble, Duet
Associate Professor Clara Yang
Tuesday, 4:00-5:50, Kenan 2011
The repertoire written for piano ensembles, such as one piano four hands, two pianos, and one piano multiple people, is incredibly rich and exciting. We will explore this repertoire and learn how to collaborate with other pianists. In this course, students will be assigned into groups and study and perform selected repertoire from different stylistic periods. The pieces we will study are mainly for one piano four hands, but we often include several works for two pianos and other formations. Students will perform in the midterm and final concerts.
Please contact Dr. Clara Yang at cyang18@email.unc.edu if you are interested in the course. MUSC 211.009 provides one credit hour towards graduation upon successful completion of the course. It may be repeated for credit.
Our award-winning duo (Jane Zhao and Cody Qiu) was formed during this course. They won first place at the MTNA Stecher Horowitz National Two-Piano Competition as well as the second place at the ENKOR International Chamber Music Competition.
