MUSC/ASIA 164, Music of South Asia

MUSC/ASIA 164 explores the music of South Asia, focusing mainly on the contemporary nations of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. The entire spectrum of musical genres is covered, from popular to folk to classical music. The course includes an introduction to raga theory as well as an investigation of the connections between musical systems and religious beliefs in South Asia. MUSC/ASIA 164 is taught by music Ph.D. candidate and Asian Studies Teaching Assistant Professor, John Caldwell.

MUSC/ASIA 164 counts as 3 credit hours towards graduation and fulfills the Visual and Performing Arts (VP) and Beyond the North Atlantic World (BN) general education requirements.
