Music Past and Present: Sir John Eliot Gardiner in Conversation with Professor Tim Carter
October 9, 2018 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pmFree
A pioneer, and now an icon, of the movement in favor of Historically Informed Performance, John Eliot Gardiner’s remarkable career spans over five decades. He has received countless awards and accolades on the concert platform and in the opera house. His performances of works by Monteverdi through Bach and Beethoven to Berlioz depend on a unique combination of historical research and stunning musical sensibilities as he encourages us to hear “old” music in entirely new ways.
The UNC-Chapel Hill Music Department and Carolina Performing Arts are deeply honored to have and to share this opportunity to discuss with him his artistic journey during fast-changing musical times, and what might matter most for young musicians now seeking to head down no less exciting creative paths.
This event is free and open to the public. Sir Gardiner will be conducting the Orchestra Révolutionnaire et Romantique in an all-Berlioz program in Memorial Hall on October 10 at as part of the Carolina Performing Arts 2018-2019 season.
