Scholarship Audition In Percussion
Students planning to audition for the Department as part of their university application should visit this page for general information about procedures and dates.
This page offers more specific information for the Percussion Area. Request an audition using this form.
The audition can be considered part of consideration for scholarship as well as admission, but all appropriate applications must first be submitted to UNC admissions before an audition date will be granted.
Ideally, a percussion student should perform in the areas of mallets, snare drum, and timpani. If you do not have the background to perform in all three areas, you are welcome to audition on one or two of the above instruments. You may also audition on drum set if you have experience in that area.
The audition selections you perform may be from the solo repertoire for the various instruments or from etude books. Your audition should reflect your true ability on each instrument, so you should select music that reflects the most mature music you feel capable of performing well.
Remember that it is more impressive to project preparedness and musical confidence on literature you can master than to tackle too difficult a work and project musical insecurity.
Students are encouraged to contact directly by email or phone Percussion Professor Juan Álamo, who will be able to answer your questions and advise in the application process.
