“It’s a true honor to be part of this vibrant music. I felt genuinely joyful and encouraged to be creative throughout the entire recording process.”
Congratulations to Rebecca Kleinmann, director of Charanga Carolina, who won her first Grammy this past weekend! Prof. Kleinmann played flute on Taylor Eigsti’s album Plot Armor, which won the Grammy for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album.
Plot Armor was released on March 1, 2024 with GroundUP Music and features eleven original compositions by Eigsti plus a standard. All of the instruments featured on the album are doubled, as Eigsti told lydialiebman.com. “The only instrument that didn’t have more than one representative was flute,” he notes. “But Rebecca Kleinmann did triple herself most of the time and played different parts. So she had clones, at least.”
When asked about this experience, Kleinmann told us,

“This album was extremely satisfying to help create. Taylor flew me up to NYC to record at GSI Studios for the very last recording session of Plot Armor. I recorded three composed flute parts on several tracks. Once those were ‘in the can’ he recorded me improvising freely over most of the album. He ended up using my improvisations in several places! I’m so happy to be playing in the company of great artists like Dayna Stephens, Lisa Fischer, Becca Stevens, and many more. It’s a true honor to be part of this vibrant music. I felt genuinely joyful and encouraged to be creative throughout the entire recording process.”
The album is available on most streaming platforms and the vinyl will be available soon (preorder the vinyl here).
