For the final installment in our staff features, we’re introducing you to Cat Zachary, our communications coordinator! She manages the department’s website, social media platforms, handles marketing/publicity needs, creates programs and posters for department events, and manages the new First Fridays performance series with Arts Everywhere.
You can find Cat in her office, Hill Hall 105F right off the rotunda, and she encourages you to stop by anytime. “I love getting to know all of the students, so if my door is open, please say hi!”
Cat started working in the department in June of 2018. As an alumna of UNC (Class of 2010) she said, “it was exciting to get to work for the department that helped shape my musicianship, vocal skills, and broadened my view of what music is and can be. It’s been a joy to be back on campus and be a part of the department community again.”
“I always tell people that I have the best job because I get to tell the world about all of the amazing things that our students, faculty, staff, and alumni are doing on a daily basis!”
Cat is a singer first and foremost (soprano), but she does play the piano too. She went to UNC School of the Arts as a Fletcher Opera Fellow for her Masters and Professional Artist Certificate after graduating from UNC, so her heart belongs to opera, but she also loves singing musical theater and art songs!
Aside from music, Cat enjoys reading, getting outside and walking in nature or playing tennis, traveling, and trying new restaurants with her husband and friends. She and her husband, Frank, have two cats, Basil and Rosemary, who tend to be very entertaining as well!
Fun Fact:
“Frank and I met at UNC! He was also a voice major (Class of 2006) and, being a fantastic pianist, he also accompanied other voice majors in the department. And luckily for me, he stuck around for a couple of years after he graduated to accompany at UNC. We still enjoy making music together!”
