MUSC 100/200/300: Applied Lessons

To see a list of applied lessons instructors, click here.

Individual instruction for academic credit (private lessons) in piano (classical), organ, woodwind, brass, percussion, string instruments, and voice is available to all University students regardless of major. However, as individual lessons represent a course taken for college credit, students taking private lessons are generally experienced performers on their instrument or voice. Music majors are given priority for all lesson instructors, but music minors and non-majors are also welcome, based on the availability of the faculty.

Less experienced students may consider the Department’s group lessons in guitar, piano, and voice (also for course credit). (Please note, however, that we do not normally offer applied lessons to beginners on a given instrument, and that lessons require an ability to read musical notation fluently.)

Registration for all applied lessons is by permission of the instructor (or audition).

For Fall 2020 registrations, applied registrations will be a little different for MUSC 100-106. Please email the teacher you are interested in taking lessons from with your PID and the number of hours you want to take. The teacher will then submit their class list. Major classes MUSC 200-206 and 300-306 will still register online. Also, please note that applied lessons fees will increase for Fall 2020: 1 hour $475, Group lessons $425 and 0.5 hour will be $237.
