Also known as Applied Lessons, we offer private instruction in a variety of instruments, ranging from piano to voice to jazz bass to fiddle! To see a full list of instrument offerings and faculty contacts for each, click here.

The department offers four types of applied lessons: individual lessons at the 100 level (0.5 or 1.0 credit hours), 200 level (2.0 credit hours), and 300 level (3.0 credit hours); and group lessons (1.0 credit hour) at the 100 level. (Full details are available in the Course Catalog.) Individual lessons instructors will assign students to the appropriate level of lessons based on their degree program and musical proficiency. Students DON’T have to be declared music major or minor to take lessons! Passionate about guitar, always wanted to learn how to sing? Consider private lessons through the department!

Separate fees beyond normal tuition are required for private instruction. These fees are the cost per semester and are billed by the Department Registrar at the end of registration each semester. Unless otherwise requested, applied lesson fees are billed to your student account. There are no refunds for applied lessons.

$425 – one-hour private lesson per week
$212 – half-hour private lesson per week

To register, pick up the Applied Lessons Registration form in the Music Office, Hill Hall 105, and get the faculty member you would like to study with to sign off on the form. Then return the form to the Department Registrar in Hill Hall 105.
