There aren’t many opera singers who can travel the world doing what they love, and still get to spend almost every day with their spouse. Power couple Lucas and Irina Meachem get to do just that. Irina Meachem, an accomplished pianist/vocal coach, travels with Lucas to almost all of his gigs and plays for all of his lessons and coachings. In February, we are thrilled to welcome not only Lucas, but also his wife Irina to Chapel Hill. On February 24 at 7:30 pm in Moeser Auditorium, Irina will accompany Lucas in recital with Carolina Performing Arts. To reserve your tickets now, click here.

To learn more about their extraordinary partnership, professional and personal, check out this interview from Valentine’s Day 2018 with New York Public Radio, “A Cheeky Love Duet: Lucas Meachem and Irina Meachem“. And to get a preview of them in action, enjoy the video below of them performing Athanaël’s aria from Massenet’s Thais.

Massenet’s opera THAÏS is best known for the violin solo “Méditation”, making Athanaël’s aria from the same opera an often overlooked treat. It doesn’t have flashy coloratura or high notes but it does have beautiful legato lines and bel canto-like phrasing.
