Collegiate Music Educators' Association

With more than 114,000 members, MENC, the National Association for Music Education is the world's largest arts education association.  Through its many programs, activities, publications, and conferences, MENC works to promote the value of music education, foster the best possible music education programs in our nation's schools, and advance music education as a profession.  As a Collegiate Member, you are automatically a member of the state organization (NCMEA).  As an educator-in-training, MENC is your permanent advocate for the importance of an education that includes music: it champions the National Music Education Standards, www.SupportMusic.com, and sponsors outreach programs such as Music In Our Schools Month (MIOSM) and the World's Largest Concert.

Advisors are Professor Merida Negrete and Professor Dan Huff.  For more information about membership, contact Kelly Austin at kaustin@email.unc.edu.

Mu Beta Psi National Co-ed Honorary Music Fraternity

Mu Beta Psi, National Co-ed Honorary Music Fraternity, is one of the nation’s oldest music fraternities. Founded at the campus of North Carolina State University in 1925, Mu Beta Psi is a diverse group of musicians, instrumentalists and vocalists alike, who seek to serve the music organizations on their campuses and to promote music at their universities and beyond. On April 4, 1993, Mu Chapter was founded at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. Since then, the men and women of Mu Beta Psi have been a presence in the UNC music community. Brothers have provided services such as ushering concerts, hosting receptions for music performances, and establishing an annual concert to raise money for VH1’s Save the Music. Mu Chapter also hosts a Senior Music Majors concert to showcase the accomplishments of the music department at UNC while educating the greater community about music. Mu Beta Psi is a very close-knit group, both at the university and on the natoinal level, with a strong focus on brotherhood as well a music.
