My name is Katie Rose Hand, and I am a trombone player in my junior year majoring in Music Performance and Spanish Linguistics. I’m from Chapel Hill (a true Tar Heel born and bred), and I love playing music with everyone here at UNC! I am involved in many different ensembles including the UNC Symphony Orchestra, the UNC Wind Ensemble, and brass quintet. My trombone professor, Mike Kris, also taught me how to play the sackbut, a renaissance and baroque-era trombone. By playing sackbut, I’ve been able to do collaborations with the UNC Baroque Ensemble as well as an international collaboration in Salzburg, Austria (as part of the Salzburg Festival). When I’m not busy in rehearsal, I love to cheer on UNC with my friends as part of the Marching Tar Heels.
