My name is Courtney Hedgecock and I am currently a sophomore at UNC-CH (Class of 2020). I am a music education (concentration on cello performance) and a psychology double major. I am from Long Island, New York so I can answer any questions about being out of state! Coming into UNC, I competed for the Kenan Music Scholarship and was named a finalist. As a bachelor of music student, I take music theory, musicianship (ear training), music history, lessons, chamber music, studio, education classes and I am part of the UNC Symphony Orchestra. In addition to academic classes, I am involved in Sigma Alpha Iota which is the music sorority on campus. It is an amazing organization that I am lucky enough to be the Chair of Community Service and part of the Executive Board. While all this happens at UNC, I studied abroad on the music department’s Burch Honors Musical Perspective: London and Florence program in Fall 2017. There I was immersed in musical culture from its roots and I look forward to using this knowledge as I continue in my 2.5 years left at UNC.
