Graduate Student (2nd Year)

Briana Frieda hails from Columbia, Missouri, where she completed a B.M. in Viola Performance at the University of Missouri. During her studies there, she also taught with the Missouri String Project and maintained a private studio. Since coming to Chapel Hill, Briana has immersed herself in seminars running the gamut from country music to fifteenth century Italian music. Her own research interests include women and music at the court of Henry VIII, activism and music, and English music in general. After spending the summer in Washington, D.C. as one of the 2014 Pruett Fellows, Briana will be beginning her thesis on Vernon Duke’s Cabin in the Sky. Outside of musicology, Briana enjoys watching old musicals, reading, and spending time with her pets – Henry and Szary – and her elementary music teacher husband, Dustin.
