Prospective Student Information: Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Program
The Master of Arts in Teaching with emphasis on Music Education (MAT Program), administered through the School of Education, is a full-time twelve-month program providing initial certification to teach music in the public schools. It offers students a reflective, student-centered curriculum, which uses the realities of the public school classroom as the motivation for students to connect theory and practice.
Admission requirements include a baccalaureate degree with a major in music or its equivalent, application to the Graduate School at UNC-CH, the Graduate Record Exam, documentation of experiences working with young people, and may require videotaped or a demonstration in person of musical competency and preparation.
