Call for Papers
The South Central Graduate Music Consortium (SCGMC) seeks to provide graduate students from the University of Virginia, the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and Duke University with a forum for presenting their work, both completed and in-progress, an opportunity for socialization with other graduate students, and a place to pursue research interests within a student-directed environment.
Friday's events (2:30-6:00) include registration, a presentation session, a keynote presentation (lecturer TBD), and dinner. Saturday's events (8:30-3:30) include breakfast, lunch, and three presentation sessions.
The Consortium welcomes participation from students representing the sponsoring schools. Please submit abstracts (200-250 words) for 20-minute papers or performance lectures whose topics include musicology, ethnomusicology, music theory, performance practice, or music composition (or any combination thereof). Both independent and collaborative projects are welcome, as are works-in-progress and interdisciplinary endeavors. Abstracts should be sent by 31 May 2007 via e-mail to:
Karen Cook
This year's SCGMC conference will also include a composers' presentation, featuring live performances of works by graduate composers from the Consortium. If you are interested in presenting your work in this session, please contact George Lam by 31 May 2007:
George Lam
Please include SCGMC in the subject line, and please also indicate any audio-visual or other needs for your presentation. Each abstract will be acknowledged as it is received; if you do not receive such an acknowledgment, please re-send the abstract. Decisions concerning acceptance will be completed by mid-June and information sent out directly thereafter.
For questions or further information, please contact your respective student representative.
The Consortium is also seeking volunteers to act as Chairs for presentation sessions. Chairs oversee the paper sessions by introducing presenters, monitoring time for presentations, and managing question/answer periods. Please contact Karen Cook (karen.m.cook@gmail.com) by 15 June 2007 to express your interest in contributing your time as a Chair.
