John Foy
began his career in piano technology
as an undergraduate piano performance major
at Oberlin Conservatory, working as a
student assistant in the piano rebuilding shop in 1977. After
earning a BA in Music from Oberlin, he completed the two-year program in piano
technology at the North Bennet St. Industrial School in Boston, MA in 1981. He
established a piano tuning and repair business in Winston-Salem, NC maintaining
instruments for Salem College and Wake Forest University. In 1985, he opened a
piano rebuilding business that is now located in downtown Greensboro, NC and has
grown to include 4 additional piano technicians. He has been a Registered Piano
Technician (RPT) of the Piano Technicians Guild for 27 years and has taught
numerous classes at both regional and national PTG conferences. In 1998, John
traveled to Cuba with Send a Piana to Havana -- a non-profit humanitarian
organization that donates pianos and piano technology expertise to the Instituto
Superior de Arte in Havana, Cuba.
