For Music Department Scholarships (Prospective Students)
Students planning to audition for the Department as part of their university application should visit this page for general information about procedures and dates.
This page offers more specific information for the Piano Area. Scholarship auditions for piano for Fall 2018 are TBA. Request an audition using this form.
The audition can be considered part of consideration for scholarship as well as admission, but all appropriate applications must first be submitted to UNC admissions before an audition date will be granted.
Requirements include three pieces of contrasting style, scales, and sight-reading. We offer a sample masterclass for prospective students after auditions on both audition dates; if you would like to play in or audit the class, please arrange your travel plans accordingly.
Students are encouraged to contact directly by email or phone Associate Professor Clara Yang, who will be able to answer your questions and advise in the application process.
For Lessons (Current Students)
Auditions for lessons are held each semester during the first week of classes. Auditions for Fall 2017 will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 in Kenan Music Building, Room 2111. More information and a sign-up sheet for lesson auditions is available here. (Note: If you are looking for the piano proficiency audition to test out of MUSC 136/236, click here.)
Any additional questions may be directed to Clara Yang, Associate Professor of Piano. Note that while students may request teacher assignments, all music majors whose primary instrument is piano are placed in the studio of Dr. Yang.
