Facilities: Practice Rooms
The music department houses thirty-one practice rooms with a variety of configurations, resources, and instruments available for student use.
In order to be able to use these rooms, students must pay a semester fee and receive a practice room permit. This permit must be shown to the monitors during evening and weekend practice in order to gain access to these rooms. Permits are distributed by Paul Cole, who can be contacted by email (pcole@email.unc.edu) and by phone (919-962-1039). All practice rooms are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
There are two general types of facilities available: rooms with piano, bench, and mirror; and rooms with seating and mirror (no piano). Of the available thirty-one practice rooms, five of these with pianos are located upstairs in the music building and are idenitified as the graduate rooms. The remaining twenty-six rooms are located on the basement level of the building. Out of these twenty-six, nineteen contain pianos and seven are without.
