Last Friday and Saturday at Meredith College, members of UNC Music’s Voice Area represented the Music Department at the North Carolina National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Musical Theatre Auditions.

The following students placed and qualified for Regionals in multiple categories, under the direction of Marc Callahan, Gene Galvin, Melissa Martin, Emily Scheuring, and Tim Sparks:

  • Category 5A-1: First Year College Women
    1st Place Tie and Regionals: Lila Dunn (Martin) and Leah Brooks (Martin)
  • Category 5A-2: First Year College Women
    2nd Place and Regionals: Leah Moore (Sparks)
  • Category 5B-1: Second Year College Women
    1st Place and Regionals: Faith Jones (Callahan)
    2nd Place and Regionals: Elizabeth Thompson (Martin)
    Regionals: Olivia Begos (Martin) and Rachel Despard (Martin)
  • Category 5B-2: Second Year College Women
    Regionals: Samantha Yancey (Callahan)
  • Category 6A: First Year College Men
    2nd Place and Regionals: Clay Cooper (Callahan)
  • Category 9A: Third Year College Women
    2nd Place and Regionals: Kristen Marion (Sparks)
    3rd Place and Regionals: Rebecca Davidson (Martin)
  • Category 9B: Fourth/Fifth Year College Women
    2nd Place and Regionals: Kennedy Crawford (Galvin)
    3rd Place and Regionals: Lauren Kneesy (Sparks)
    Regionals: Maddie Fisher (Sparks) and Lea Kokenes (Martin)
  • Category 10A: Third Year College Men
    1st Place and Regionals: Ryan Anderson (Sparks)
  • Category 10B: Fourth/Fifth Year College Men
    1st Place and Regionals: Christopher Burrus (Martin)

According to NATS’s website, NATS has become the largest association of singing teachers in the world since its founding in 1944, represented in the United States, Canada, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, China, Colombia, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, and the UK.
